Final Preps Underway For Jefferson County FairPosted: Updated:
Final preparations were underway Monday for the 201st running of the Jefferson County Fair.
The fair officially opens Tuesday and runs through Sunday. The fair is open 10 AM to 9:30 PM through Saturday, and closes at 6:30 PM Sunday.
Returning for a second year this year: free admission to the fair. New this year: a farmer's market on Sunday.
That's not all.
"We've got new entertainment this year, all new entertainment from what we've had previously," said fair president Bob Simpson.
That new entertainment includes a pair of horseback riders. Heidi Wenzel is one of the performers, and she said it's an old fashioned form of entertainment for families.
"We stand on horses," Wenzel said. "It's like an old circus style performance, similar to trick riding but it's a bit slower paced."
It was crunch time Monday, as crews worked to get games and rides set up.
One of those rides, Simpson said, is "called the Tango, and you sit in the seats, it elevates and you spin in all kinds of circles and different directions."
"It's really what they call a super spectacular ride. It goes way up in the air and turns people upside down and around," Simpson said.
Tuesday is "emergency responders" day. The fair officially opens with a 6:30 PM ceremony, and the annual fireman's parade takes place at 7 PM.
7 News is live at the fair at noon, 5 PM and 6 PM Tuesday.
