For more than five years, Robert Bowen has organized Watertown Urban Mission's annual back to school backpack drive.
Each year, the mission collects school supplies donated by community members to give back to families in need so students are well equipped to head back to school.
A handful of volunteers spent Friday sorting out donations to get ready for the drive.
"It is amazing that they give all these out and they don't have enough. The need in the community is unbelievable," said Gregory Couch, volunteer, UBS Community Corps.
Already, the mission has so much to give this year, but it needs more donations.
Bowen says he expects to hand out more back to school kits than last year, which was more than 1,100.
"Our little start is just that. It's enough to get them going and get them down the school year," he said.
The back to school drive will be held August 15 through 17 at the mission. Those interested in donating are requested to bring backpacks, folders and binders before then.
