Teacher Starts 51st Year With Same School DistrictPosted: Updated:
If you want to keep up with Judy Green, you better keep moving. 51 years of teaching haven't slowed Green down. That's right – 51 years.
"Negative brings everything down. Positive brings everything up. And that is what you need and you teach the children that,” said Green, a math support teacher.
Green started teaching in Ogdensburg in 1968. A passion for math and students drives her. She never counted the days to retirement. She could have done that 18 years ago.
“No. I never saw the light at the end of the tunnel where it's time to get out,” she said.
In 1986 a new teacher came to her elementary school. It was Susan Jacobs. Today Jacobs is grades 3 - 6 principal at Kennedy Elementary where Green teaches.
“Age is relative. She's always been a very dynamic teacher and I think that's what caught my interest as a first-year teacher,” said Jacobs.
Years ago Green would work the family farm before school and after. Today she spends summers planning lessons. The first day of school still brings a thrill - and second looks from new teachers.
“They're wondering - is she out of her head,” she said.
No not out of her head. Just living in the moment. And touching the lives and hearts of students.
