Craig's To Do List Interviews Musician Gary PuckettPosted: Updated:
I sat down and talked with Gary Puckett for quite a while Friday afternoon. We focused on his origin story and it was incredibly interesting hearing about his early days. Growing up in house full of music, Gary’s love for music is innate.
Stories of his early days and where he gained inspiration include attending the famous 1950’s movie “Blackboard Jungle” which featured one of the first recognized rock and roll songs “Rock Around the Clock.” He spoke of the revolutionary nature of the film and the “free dancing” of the teenage boys in the film. If Puckett saw the film when it was originally released, he would have been 13 or 14, remembering it decades later only underscores its impact on the young musician.
What’s even more remarkable is that Gary is still rocking, still touring and still mesmerizing audiences with live performances. The inspiration he had as a child is still there, and luckily for his fans he is still sharing it.
Puckett performed as part of the 18th annual Rock and Roll Oldie’s Show at Bonnie Castle, Friday night.
