Saturday Sports: North Country Tigers Defeated In Title Game

The North Country Tigers looking to bring home the NFA AA Division Championship Saturday night as they traveled to Cortland to face Ithaca in the title game. A tough night for the Tigers. After fumbling the opening kickoff, Ithaca capitalized with a short touchdown run to go up 8-0. But the Tigers answered. Garen Arnold hit Dylan Baker for the touchdown to pull the Tigers within 2 at 8-6. In the 3rd quarter, now 16-6, Ithaca adds to their lead on the touchdown pass to make it 24-6.In the 4th quarter, now 38-6, Arnold scored on the quarterback keeper to make the final score 38-12.

A big Section 10 showdown Saturday afternoon in Gouverneur as the Wildcats met the O.F.A. Blue Devils in a battle of unbeaten. Caleb Farr took it in from 2 yards out: 8-0 Wildcats. O.F.A. answered as Hayden Ives went in from 4 yards out: 8-6 Gouverneur. On the ensuing kickoff, the Blue Devils' Steve Morley recovered the football, setting up the next Blue Devils score as Tristan Lovely took it in, but Gouverneur went on to edge O.F.A. 22-20.

Another Section 10 battle Saturday morning in Canton as the Golden Bears hosted Potsdam. It was the Bears' Robert Beaudoin with a sack. Canton strikes first as Declan Porter hit Greg Mastro for the touchdown. And it was Porter again, this time to Patrick Recker, score: 14-0. This one a see saw affair as well, Canton goes on to beat Potsdam 29-20.

A Section 3 football battle Saturday afternoon in Beaver Falls, the Beavers hosted the South Jeff Spartans. In the 1st quarter the beavers strike, Sam Bush goes over the middle to Cameron Murphy who goes 65 yards for the touchdown. Score: 6-0 Beavers. The Spartans tie it in the 2nd quarter as Austin Mesler hit Josh Tanner for a 37 yard touchdown. The game tied at 6. With 1 second left in the half, Bush hit Murphy for his 2nd touchdown of the game, score: 14-6 Beavers at the half. The Beavers continued on to win 14-8.

In Girls' Frontier League Soccer Saturday morning in Adams, the South Jeff Lady Spartans hosted Carthage. In the 2nd half, South Jeff down 1-0 when Maci Schultz's left footed boot finds the back of the net, tying the game at 1. Later on, the Lady Spartans take the lead when Tay Lin Biccum's header tickled twine. Final score: 2-1 South Jeff.

Another Girls Frontier League Soccer matchup in the city, the I.H.C. Lady Cavaliers hosted General Brown. In the 1st half, 1-0 I.H.C., Kate O'Neill's shot is stopped but Maddie Rowland is there to stick home the loose ball. Score: 2-0 I.H.C. The Lady Cavaliers blank General Brown 4-0.
