Jefferson County's plan to sue opioid manufacturers has stalled.
The measure to hire a law firm and file suit didn't pass the county Legislature Tuesday night.
Chair Scott Gray says lawmakers didn't have a proper majority. There were seven votes in favor and four against, but four absences.
Gray says a full board vote without those absences should allow the lawsuit to move forward.
He says the plan will be reintroduced after about 90 days.
Most New York counties have decided to sue opioid makers, hoping to recoup the high cost of the addiction crisis.
