Transformer Fire Causes Brief Problems For Firefighters

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters, state police, and National Grid workers responded to a transformer fire at a National Grid station on Coffeen Street in the town of Watertown.

Some of the footage in the video was sent in by Shayna Adams, who owns Alice Andrew Salon across the street. She says she saw flames coming from the transformer.

Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Van Brocklin said the Town of Watertown fire station 3 on Route 202 briefly lost power and firefighters saw black smoke in the air.

He said firefighters had to use cell phones to contact dispatchers when they responded to the call because the outage prevented them from using the radio.

National Grid shut power off to the transformers and began repairing the damaged units.
