Election Eve: Senator Gillibrand Stumps For CobbPosted: Updated:
Voting booths were unloaded from a truck and rolled into the city of Watertown's fire department Monday morning. It's just one of many north country polling places for Tuesday's mid-term election.
The top race: the north country's seat in Congress. Both incumbent Republican Elise Stefanik and Democrat Tedra Cobb were in the Plattsburgh area Monday - Stefanik at an apple packing plant and Cobb meeting with supporters in Champlain.
One big Cobb supporter was in Watertown. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand stumped for Cobb Monday afternoon. Gillibrand said she expects Cobb to win.
"Look at the energy in this room alone. The grassroots are on fire in the north country. They want to be heard and they feel like they are not being represented well in Washington and they want someone who will stand up to President Trump and not side with him, especially on access to health care to make sure it's affordable. It shouldn't be a privilege it should be a right and so that's why Tedra Cobb, I think, will win this race," said Gillibrand (D. - NY).
There's been no public polling, so we don't know who's ahead. When it comes to money, Cobb out-raised Stefanik late in the race, but there are 46,000 more Republican than Democrat voters in the 21st Congressional District. Dr. Lynn Kahn is running for the Congressional seat on the Green Party ticket.
Also up for a vote Tuesday is the 116th State Assembly District race between incumbent Democrat Addie Jenne, going for her sixth term, and Watertown City Council member, Republican Mark Walczyk.
Statewide, voters pick between Governor Cuomo and Republican Marc Molinaro and three other candidates for the state's top job.
Among other races, voters will be deciding on the state attorney general.
And in parts of St. Lawrence County, there will be an Assembly race in the 118th District and a state Senate race in the 45th District.
There are also nine county legislature seats that will determine the balance of power in St. Lawrence County as well.
