A chorus of first and second graders put on a show for family, soldiers and veterans at Indian River High School Wednesday evening as a way to celebrate Veterans Day.
Billed as "A Salute to Our Heroes," Evans Mills Primary School students prepared all year for the special show.
It's one way students learn about and celebrate American veterans.
"That veterans in the Army and the Navy and other branches," first grader Noah Hutchcraft said. "They fight for our country."
Before the performance, some students put on costumes, while others colored and spent time with soldiers from Fort Drum.
One second grader especially was feeling the patriotic spirit.
"I'm planning on joining the Army," Korina Jacobsen said.
"I just want to protect my nation," she said, when asked why.
Most of the students have veterans or active-duty soldiers in their families, so when a loved one is deployed, it can be tough to talk about.
"Some of them, it's a little close to home sometimes, but they all rally around each other," first grade teacher Kelly Sova said. "It's so nice to see them be supportive of each other when something like that happens."
Along with the kids, Fort Drum's band also performed.
