Cell Phones For Soldiers Drive UnderwayPosted: Updated:
Up to 200,000 American soldiers are serving throughout the world.
In an effort to help them connect with their loved ones this holiday season, State Senator Joe Griffo has partnered with AT&T again this year for the annual Cell Phones For Soldiers Collection Drive.
The collection drive runs until December 13.
Members of the general public and businesses can drop off gently used cell phones and tablets at AT&T stores and select locations throughout the region like the Lloyds of Lowville Diner.
"Soldiers are on limited income and I think we are always trying to be supportive off our men and women who are serving in various capacities throughout the world," said Griffo (R. - 47th District).
The proceeds for the recycled cell phones are used to buy long distance calling cards for troops both at home and abroad.
Every donated phone is valued at $5, which is worth two and half hours on a calling card donated to a soldier.
