Salvation Army Gets Gift Of New Red Kettle

Posted: Updated:

It's a big gift for the Salvation Army.

Bell ringers started using a new large red kettle at the Salmon Run Mall in Watertown this year.

The old one broke last year.

Major Karen Smullen says getting a kettle this size can difficult for local Salvation Armies.

Carthage Savings and Loan donated almost $4,000 to get one just in time for the holidays.

"We've lived in 11 different location with the Salvation Army, my husband and I, and this is the first big red kettle we've ever been able to put out and maintain," said Smullen.

"They're a great group. They help a lot of people. They're needed in the community. We support their mission completely," said Heather Blair, Carthage Savings and Loan, Watertown branch manager.

The Salvation Army is looking for daytime volunteers for bell ringers.
