State Police said a man was found dead in his home after a fire in the town of Alexandria Saturday morning.

Authorities said Carl Lawton, 65, was found in the hallway of his home at 43816 Trailer Park Road.

Crews responded to the address at approximately 6:36 a.m..

Crews said the residence was engulfed in flames when they arrived. A neighbor reported that the person who lived at the home was unaccounted for.

Fire investigators said it looks like the fire was started by an electric space heater being placed too close to combustible materials.

Fire departments on scene included Plessis, Alexandria and Redwood. Mutual aid was requested and responded from Fishers Landing, Clayton and Wellesley Island Fire Departments.
