Ogdensburg Pushes To Get SkyWest Airlines

Posted: Updated:

There's a major push to get a new airline for Ogdensburg and the question is - how does Massena fit into the picture?

Monday night, the Massena Town Board voted to recommend that Boutique Air get the new federal contract to continue serving the Massena Airport.

Meanwhile, the Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority wants SkyWest, with its 50-seat airplanes and flights to Washington D.C. and Chicago, to get that federal subsidy.

On Tuesday, the authority forwarded 16 letters of support for SkyWest from people including Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, state Senator Patty Ritchie, Assemblywoman Addie Jenne and five area colleges.

"I know that they had sought out those letters and if that's what the bridge and port authority wants, that's best for them. But it's not the best option for Massena," said Massena Town Supervisor Steven O'Shaughnessy

O'Shaughnessy says the SkyWest proposal is contingent on both Ogdensburg and Massena being aboard.

We were unable to reach Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority Director Wade Davis for comment.
