Gray Helms Jefferson County Legislature For Another Year

Posted: Updated:

Scott Gray will stay on as chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Legislators for another year.

He says the legislature will restructure next year.

7 News anchor John Moore spoke with him on First @ 5 on Wednesday.

"We had to put in $3 million, almost $4 million in additional spending this year in our budget and so you've got that constant pressure each and every year," Gray said.

Many of the increases, he said, are mandated.

"A lot of them are state mandates, some of them are contractual obligations, so when you're faced with that on a year-in, year-out basis, you really have to make sure that you're making room to put that in the budget, because, keep in mind, we're working against the state tax cap, also.

The tax cap is good for the public, he acknowledges, "but on the other hand, it presents quite a bit of pressure on us."
