Your Health: Flu Cases Up As Peak Season Approaches
The number of flu cases are picking up in Jefferson County as we approach peak flu season.
According to public health officials, since Jan. 1, there have been 40 reported cases of the flu.
In Jefferson county - that puts the total number of cases at 60 for the entire season.
Jefferson County Public Health Planner Faith Lustik said she expects the numbers to continue to go up over the next few weeks, and said it's not too late to get your flu shot.
"You can get it at your provider, here at public health, at the pharmacy, wherever," Lustik said. "It takes about two weeks for maximum effectiveness, but that would be perfect timing right now to get your flu shot."
In Lewis County - there have been 39 reported cases of the flu so far this season, with 14 of the cases since Jan. 1.
In St. Lawrence County - there have been 24 cases this season, with only three since Jan. 1.
