Saturday Sports: Championship Titles On The Line On The Ice And Court

The Girls' Section 10 Hockey Championship on the line Saturday afternoon at SUNY Potsdam as the top seeded Potsdam Lady Sandstoners met Massena for the title. In the 1st period, Alex Quinn's shot is snagged by Massena's Mackenzie Garrow. Then it was Anna Nelson stopped by Garrow. Ella Oakes shot was stopped at the other end by Coryn Young. Kennedy Emerson opens the scoring off the feed from Erica Stone, score: 1-0 Potsdam. Potsdam would continue on to beat Massena 9-1.

The Frontier League Volleyball Championships up for grabs Saturday at Watertown High School with the A, B and C Division crowns on the line. Carthage came out on top for A Division, beating Indian River 3-0. It was South Jeff over Lowville in Division B. South Jeff won 3-1. And in C Division, South Lewis came out on top of Beaver River, winning 3-2.

In Girls' Frontier League Basketball Saturday afternoon from Adams, the South Jeff Lady Spartans hosted General Brown. In the 1st quarter, Taylor Scoville lays in 2 down low, Lady Spartans up by 2. General Brown answered as Rachel Black dials long distance for 3, Lady Lions up 1. Abby Piddock drives the lane for a bucket putting South Jeff back up 1. It was Jackie Piddock down low for a kiss off glass, South Jeff up by 2. Piddock finished off the turnover as South Jeff beat General Brown 62-34.

Another Girls' Frontier League contest in Philadelphia as Indian River entertained I.H.C. In the 3rd quarter, Josie Barton lays in 2, Lady Cavaliers down by 20. Adrien Lamora stops, pops and connects putting the Lady Warriors up by 22. Margaret Gonas drops a baseliene jumper putting I.H.C. back within 20. Lamora gets the trifecta to fall as Indian River beat I.H.C. 62-51.

In Boys' N.A.C. Basketball, Gouverneur at St. Lawrence Central. Matt Berg lays in 2 and Garrison Gonyeau hits the 3 at the other end. It was Berg with a 3 pointer and that gives Berg 1,000 points for his career. Colby Perkins dials long distance for the trifecta. It was Berg again in traffic as St. Lawrence Central beat Gouverneur 64-33.

Federal Hockey League Hockey action from the Watertown Fairgrounds Arena as the Wolves looked to end their 8 game losing streak as they hosted Port Huron for a 2nd straight night. However, their losing streak continues as Port Huron beat the Wolves 5-4.
