State money will help Ogdensburg's Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center build a new children's mental health unit.
The $2.6 million project will renovate the 4th floor of the hospital, where the obstetrics unit used to be.
The new 12-bed inpatient, acute care facility will treat children and adolescents under the age of 18.
"We end up with kids in our ER for days and days because there are no beds in upstate New York," said Chuck Gijanto, hospital CEO.
The new treatment area will open in 2020.
