Horbacz: Appeal 'Is Part Of The Process' In Firefighter Dispute

Posted: Updated:

We have learned the opinion of another city council member after Watertown chose to take its dispute with the firefighters union to the state's highest court.

Monday night, in executive session, council decided it would follow through and appeal a ruling which would allow the union to go to arbitration over how many firemen have to be on the job.

That's a main sticking point in contract negotiations.

Mayor Joe Butler said the appeal was the right thing to do, but Council Member Lisa Ruggiero disagreed.

Now we hear from Council Member Cody Horbacz, who said, "While I'm not happy that we've been dealing with this issue my entire tenure, a move to appeal is part of the process."

Asked if he agrees with the process, Horbacz said, "I respectfully decline to comment further."

Council members Sarah Compo and Ryan Henry Wilkinson both declined to give their opinions on the issue.
