Fire Damages Scrap Metal Business

Posted: Updated:

A fire heavily damaged a business in the town of Oswegatchie Thursday night.

Firefighters from Heuvelton and three other departments fought the blaze at Star Scrap Metal and Cars owned by Roland Lafave Jr.

The fire at 718 Irish Settlement Road was reported shortly before 6 p.m.

The fire spread quickly through the metal-sided building. Firefighters fought much of it from inside.

“When we arrived there was fire coming out of a couple of windows and we had some electrical problems," Heuvelton Fire Chief Travis Wood said. "It started in the front corner and started to work its way to the back, but we were able to knock it down pretty fast.”

The building was not insured. Some car parts and tools inside were also damaged.

The cause is under investigation.
