Sunday Sports: Frontier League Basketball Playoffs Wrap Up MondayPosted: Updated:
The Frontier League Basketball Playoffs wrap up Monday night at Jefferson Community College with the Boys' A and C Division Championships on the line.
Two teams that have already won crowns are now preparing for sectional play which begins this week.
The Lowville Red Raiders head into the beginning of sectional play primed to make a run at a Section 3 Class B Championship. The 16-2 Red Raiders are coming off a 69-50 win over General Brown in the Frontier League B Division Championship game and seem to be hitting on all cylinders with Aiden Macaulay, Hudson White and Gavin Macaulay all averaging double figures.
"Well I think it's something you know, like I said, we know how good General Brown is and how tough they've been all the times that we've played them. And I think a game like this for us, you know, we can kinda put this in our hat and know that we can play with anybody. You know, and when we shoot the ball well obviously that helps too but when we move the ball like we did tonight, I think good things happen for us," said Lowville coach, Zach Shambo.
"There's pretty good momentum, we kinda got hot a little bit and we're just gonna try and use it to work on like practice the next couple days and just keep working on it, " said Red Raiders' guard, Hudson White.
Another team hitting their stride with sectionals upon us is the Lyme Indians. Coach Leo Wilson's team has won 9 straight games and sit at 18-2 on the season. Lyme led by Isaiah Wilson, who's averaging 26 points a game. The Indians' fresh off their Frontier League D Division Championship Friday night over LaFargeville 63-46. Lyme feels it has some unfinished business to take care of after a disappointing exit in the Class D Semi-finals last year.
"Yeah, I mean last year we lost in the sectional semifinals. We were up going into the 4th quarter, so I think it left a bad taste in our mouths and we kinda wanna get there and get past that feat that we got to last year," stated player Isaiah Wilson.
"The motivation it gives these guys, they're high already now and I think it's just gonna work right over into the sectionals now I hope. We were playing sloppy there in the middle of the season but then like I say, we changed some things and then but ah I think right now we're rolling pretty good right now," said Coach Leo Wilson.
Despite winning league championships over the weekend, some teams still have regular season games left to make up because of the weather.
One of those teams is the South Jeff Lady Spartans, who won the Frontier League B Division Title over Lowville on Saturday and have 2 makeup games Monday and Tuesday before sectional seedings are announced on Wednesday. Coach Michelle Whitley says it takes away some of the luster of winning a postseason title.
