YMCA Won't Be Getting Grant Not Used By Murray

Posted: Updated:

Moving a million dollar state grant from one downtown project over to the Watertown YMCA Aquatics Center project is likely not to happen.

Developer Brian Murray told us this week it would be more expensive to complete his project of restoring facades on buildings along Franklin Street if he were to accept the state's $1.2 million grant.

He said he'd like to see the money go to the Y's new project, but admitted he doesn't really have a say.

The Department of State got back to us and said, per their guidelines, this money will likely go to another project that is closer to be completed and one that was on the list of 20 priority projects the city submitted last year.

The YMCA project wasn't on that list.
