Relay For Life kicked off in Jefferson County Wednesday.
The group consistently raises a great deal of money in the fight against cancer. Last year it was $223,000.
This year's Relay is happening at the Fairgrounds in Watertown from 6 p.m. to midnight on June 14.
Wednesday's get-together was a chance to rally the teams and let others know all are welcome.
"Try to get some new people involved with what we do, so we invite anybody who hasn't relayed in the past to come on out, check it out, see if they'd like to get involved with us," said Don Boshart, who's community executive with the American Cancer Society.
"And then," Boshart said, "with the folks who have been doing it year after year, those teams that have been with us forever, they come out, get jazzed up, get fired up and this is kind of like the kickoff to the Relay season."
This year's honorary chair, breast cancer survivor Pat Difabion, spoke to Relay teams Wednesday night.
