Committee Begins Efforts To Update Canton's Ice Rink

Posted: Updated:

The Canton recreation department is looking at ways to renovate the village's ice pavilion.

Community members and trustees held a meeting Wednesday night to begin discussing a five-year renovation plan.

The building, which houses a popular ice rink, is 40 years old.

Recreation director Jim Putman says the facility is in need of repair, which could start with changes to locker rooms and flooring.

"It will encompass and include raising funds and doing some updates throughout the building as we go along," Putman said. "Some of it will include having a cushion in case we do have a major issue -- that way we'll be able to turn around and fix or solve the problem and not have an interruption to what we provide to the community."

Officials are looking into the cost.

The committee will meet monthly. Putman says the goal is to finalize plans so that work can begin in the summer.
