One area high school basketball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday night, while a boys' hockey team is getting ready for the state Final 4.

Madrid-Waddington fell to Lake George in opening round action in the state basketball boys' Class C playoffs.

Lake George proved to be too much as they beat Madrid-Waddington 68-58 to end the Yellowjackets' season.

The Canton Golden Bears boys' hockey team is getting prepared for the state championship weekend on the ice at the Harbor Center in Buffalo.

The team will square off against Suffern in the state Division 1 Final 4 on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

A trip to the state title game on Sunday is on the line.

"They want to win a state title for themselves, but they want a state title for Canton, too," Coach Anthony Levato said. "It's been way too long since we've hung a banner and we hope to get it done this weekend."
