Work Continues To Free Ice-Encased Home

Posted: Updated:

It was time to break out the heavy machinery to free a home encased in ice.

About a dozen relatives and friends helped break the ice and build a trench around a Lake Ontario summer home in the town of Richland.

Chainsaws, augers, and pick axes were all used to chip away at what's left of the four feet of ice that surrounded the home.

The home became encased in ice because of a wind storm blowing water off the lake a few weeks ago.

Owners say they will keep working weekly to prevent any flooding inside the cottage.
