Full Steam Ahead For Ogdensburg Riverfest Concert

Posted: Updated:

While we're still getting through the cold and snowy weather of March, Ogdensburg now has one more summer event it will be hosting.

Besides the annual Seaway Festival, the city will be home to a music festival named OG Riverfest.

At Monday night's city council meeting lawmakers unanimously voted to allow the company Everything 4 Entertainment to use the city-owned former Diamond National site, giving the festival a St. Lawrence River backdrop.

"That property that they're going to be using at that Diamond National property has been vacant for about 40 years," Mayor Wayne Ashley said, "so this probably the first use of it and this may incur other people to do things there."

Joe Howe, a partner with Everything 4 Entertainment was at the meeting when the site was approved. He says he's looking forward to getting the ball rolling to plan the concert.

"This could be good for the city of Ogdensburg in the future, Deputy Mayor Daniel Skamperle said. "It could make Ogdensburg a destination if things work out right."

Skamperle said he wishes Howe and his associates the best of luck. "I really hope that we see this take off."

There's still a lot of work to be done and there's no word on what the lineup is.
