Accused Meth Maker Remains In Jail, No Bail

Posted: Updated:

A man charged with starting a fire when his alleged meth lab exploded at a Potsdam apartment in February will remain in jail without bail.

Matthew Foote, 29, has been held at the St. Lawrence County jail since Potsdam police arrested him in early March. He was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, reckless endangerment and drug possession.

He was allegedly making meth on February 20th at 39 ½ Pine Street when there was an explosion and fire. It seriously damaged the two-unit apartment building. He suffered severe burns and two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze.

At his show cause hearing today in county court he was sent back to jail until space can be found for him at an in-patient drug rehab facility. The skin of his right hand was shriveled and reddened and his knuckles covered with black scar tissue.

In the meantime, the charges against him will progress through the court. No trial date has been set.
