U.S. Border Patrol and state police seized 58 pounds of marijuana, valued at nearly a quarter-million dollars, in the town of Gouverneur.
According to the Border Patrol, agents saw a suspicious vehicle driving southbound on Route 11 on Thursday.
After the vehicle pulled into a drug store parking lot, agents said they talked to the driver, who told them she was traveling to Watertown to look at a puppy.
Officials said they used a K-9 unit to determine there was marijuana in the trunk of the car.
Agents searched the trunk and discovered the 58 pounds of marijuana hidden in garbage bags and a dog food bag.
The woman, 26 year old Ashlyn Lazare-Cole of Hogansburg, is facing felony charges of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
She and the evidence were turned over to state police.
