A Chaumont man allegedly refused to stop for police and ended up driving off the road to elude them.

State police say 30 year old Joseph Haas refused to stop Friday night when they tried to pull him over for speeding on Route 12E in Chaumont.

He allegedly drove his pickup truck onto Morris Tract Road and then off the road.

Troopers say they found the truck on Cheever Road in the town of Lyme after 911 dispatchers received several reckless-driving complaints involving a vehicle that matched the description of Haas' pickup.

Haas turned himself in Saturday, was charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and was ticketed for several vehicle and traffic violations.

He was released to appear in Lyme town court at a later date.
