Time Running Out To File Your TaxesPosted: Updated:
If you haven't filed your taxes yet, time is running out.
April 15 is the deadline to file your personal income tax return this year.
Katherine Hamlin, a tax analyst at H&R Block, says a big reason people wait to file their taxes is because they know they are going to owe money and are afraid they are going to have to pay it at the same time as they file.
But she says payment plans can be set up with the IRS.
"If you're fearful of owing money, the biggest thing is to get in, see exactly what you're looking at first. Some people have thought they were going to owe, to find out they're actually due a small refund and they were afraid for nothing. I know with the tax law changes there's a lot of talk around refunds are lower, but that's not the case for everybody. The biggest thing is just get in and file something," she said.
Hamlin says you can file an extension if you won't be ready to file your taxes by April 15.
