Father Charged In Death Of 5 Year Old SonPosted: Updated:
The father of Aiden Riley has become the second person charged in connection with the 5 year old boy's death in a Massena house fire two years ago.
An indictment unsealed in St. Lawrence County Court Monday charges 31 year old Michael Riley with criminal contempt for allowing someone to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs in his child's presence.
A month ago, Aiden's grandmother, Shari Caza, was charged with criminally negligent homicide in the boy's death.
Aiden Riley died in a house fire at 2224 State Route 420 in Massena on February 22, 2017.
Sheriff's deputies investigated and found the door to the boy's upstairs bedroom had been locked from the outside and could not be opened from the inside.
The boy was pulled from the room by firefighters and pronounced dead a short time later at Massena Memorial Hospital.
The charge against Michael Riley stems from the fact he was under a family court order, which barred him from allowing Aiden to be in the presence of any third party who was under the influence of drugs or alcohol within 48 hours of seeing the child.
