Sunday, many got the chance to learn how to hunt a turkey. During a free course offered by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, young hunters learned the do's and don'ts of hunting turkeys.
After a lecture at the Sackets Harbor Sportman's Club, kids took their shotguns outside to practice shooting targets. The range complete with fake turkey heads.
"In turkey hunting, you want to keep your movement really slow and steady, because they have super good eyesight. That's just with any bird," said 14-year-old KadinZeigler.
The class also learned how to use turkey calls.
Next Saturday, they'll put what they learned to the test during a turkey hunt.
The Youth Turkey Hunt is special for April 20th and April 21 from one-half hour before sunrise to noon. The regular spring season starts May 1st and goes until May 31st..
