Lewis County residents hit the trails Sunday morning to learn more about a hamlet that once was.
Over a dozen people took a walking tour of Jerden Falls in the town of Croghan. Town historians led the way over about a mile span of Jerden Falls Road. In the first half off the 1900s, people started leaving Jerden Falls. Organizers said the last known residents moved off the land in the 1950s.
“It really was a thriving place. I hope they can learn and appreciate what used to be here," said tour guide Linda Brouty-Baxter.
This is the first return of the walking tour in several years. The area is now used for campsites and fishing.
