Baseball Hall of Famer Ernie Banks always used to say "Let's play" and that's what they did in Potsdam Sunday as the Clarkson Golden Knights hosted their rivals from down Route 11, St. Lawrence University, in a Liberty League doubleheader.
In the first game, top of the 1st, Joe Deguardia singles off the pitchers foot and Taylor Digilio scores, 1-0 Saints. Still in the 1st, Christian Forgione grounds out to 2nd base and Anthony Butler scores, upping the Saints lead to 2-0. At the bottom of the first the Golden Knights answer. Michael Mieczkowski singles to right center and Tommy Bianchi scores. Score: 2-1 Saints. Still in the 1st, Vincent Granuzzo singles through the left side, Mieczkowski scores, tying the game at 2. At the bottom of the second, the Golden Knights take the lead. Bianchi goes the other way for a base hit and Mike Messier scores. Score: 3-2 Clarkson. The Golden Knights win game one 10-3.
The Golden Knights wouldn't let up in game two. At the bottom of the first, Mieczkowski singles up the middle and Bianchi scores. Clarkson down 2-1. Still in the 1st, Mike Krick doubles to the gap in deep left center, clearing the bases. Golden Knights go on top 4-2. At the bottom of the second, the Golden Knights are up 6-4 when Granuzzo singles to left and Mieczkowski and Brad Pearson score, 8-4 Clarkson. Clarkson sweeps St. Lawrence 28-9.
