Gouverneur Couple Faces Insurance Fraud Charges

Posted: Updated:

A Gouverneur couple is accused of insurance fraud.

Gouverneur village police say 60 year old David Blair Sr. forged a signature on a check meant for the victim, Garth Monica, and the full amount of the check -- just over $53,000 --  was deposited into 64 year old Marcalene Blair's account.

The couple gave $22,000 to Monica and kept the rest.

The money was for a garage that burned down that the Blairs were buying from Monica on a land contract.

They were arrested Thursday and charged with third-degree grand larceny. David Blair was also charged with third-degree possession of a forged instrument.

They were arraigned in Gouverneur town court and released on their own recognizance.
