Adding To Watertown's 150 Year Old Roots

Adding To Watertown's 150 Year Old Roots

Posted: Updated:

Watertown leaders planted a tree Wednesday as the city celebrates 150 years.

The oak tree will be out in front of Watertown City Hall for years to come.

Mayor Joe Butler offered a speech on the history of Watertown and then members of the current city council threw dirt on the new city hall oak tree.

"We've flourished, survived, gone through difficult times and good times, wealth and prosperity for 150 years and there's something to be said for that," said Butler.

What's next as the city celebrates?  Flower Memorial Library is hosting an essay writing contest for children ages 10 through 18.

Those kids can answer this question: "What do you think the city of Watertown will be like in 150 years?"

They can enter at the library by the end of the month.
