Sackets Harbor, Hounsfield Residents Encouraged To Pick Up Sandbags

Posted: Updated:

Municipal officials in communities along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River say the water levels are at flood stage.

In Sackets Harbor, water is threatening the downtown boat launch.

The state has already deployed aqua dams to protect vital infrastructure, like the water treatment plant.

And there are more dams in place to protect shoreline properties..

Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to pick up sandbags at the village facilities on Hill Street.

"Any residents in the town of Hounsfield or village of Sackets Harbor can come here to this area, pick up whatever they need for sandbags to protect their property and we'll be refilling it as needed," said Sackets Harbor Department of Public Works Superintendent Lonny Reinhardt.

Sackets and other towns and villages along the water are getting those sandbags from a state barn off Route 342.
