City Works To Bring Thompson Park Pool Within Budget
Watertown officials are working to keep the Thompson Park pool project within budget.
A new pool design is thought to be in the $2.4 million price range which is the amount the city has a 10-year bond for.
Engineers from the firm C&S companies met with city council members Monday night to show them the new design.
A smaller bathhouse and one less swimming lane in the pool cuts the project's estimate to within budget.
"I think it's great," city council member Cody Horbacz said. "Fits within our budget and we just need to wrap it up."
"You do pay for that over 10 years, but keep in mind for the public's benefit you're talking about an operating cost in perpetuity on this that's $80,000 or $90,000 a year and that's an expense that's not going to go away when that debt is paid," Mayor Joe Butler said.
There are also optional additions built into the plan to add heating to the bathhouse and a slide to the pool.
Officials hope to get bids back from construction companies in August.
