Obituary: Gouverneur Man Dies After Surviving Fire

A 45 year old Gouverneur man died Sunday, five months after surviving a fire at his home, according to his obituary.

Kevin Kip Matott of 159 River Road unexpectedly passed away at Gouverneur Hospital, the obituary said.

The obituary states he survived a fire at his home on January 5, 2019.

According to the Gouverneur Fire Department's Facebook page, volunteers were called to River Road home on the morning of January 5 and battled "heavy fire conditions."

The Facebook page said one occupant was airlifted to the burn center, but doesn't say where.

It's unclear if Matott died from injuries sustained in the fire.
