WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A bomb scare at Watertown’s Public Square closed off nearby roadways Saturday. Watertown Police said it was yet another fake bomb threat.

Around 8 a.m. Saturday, Public Square was completely closed off as police searched the area.

Police say no bombs were found and there isn’t a threat to the public.

Public Square has since reopened.

Police Lieutenant Joe Giaquinto tells us the square has become a common target for these threats due to it’s high traffic and camera coverage.

Giaquinto says they’re working to identify the person who called it in.

A fake bomb threat comes with both federal and state penalties, including prison sentences, fines, and a permanent criminal record.
